Know Your Pack …
There are a total of 110 cards in the pack. Out of that, 106 cards are Headline cards which will have the words and the points written on them. 3 cards are known as Exclusive cards which are very useful and also have the power of doubling your points. The last one is the instruction card which will teach you about the game.
The ‘Man Bites Dog’ is a card game created by the University Games. This game is unique because the cards don’t have numbers, but have words and points written on them. It tests your speed of thinking and the command over your language. It is designed for 2 – 6 players but this game is not very suitable for children. The whole point of this game is to create some funny and out-of-the-box headlines with the cards you get. But they should also be structured correctly. Each card has a value so if the sentence is correct, your points are added and then the winner is decided.
Before Starting the Game
✦ Each of the cards has a point value from 0 – 50. In one pack, there are 5 cards with 0 points, 32 cards having 5 points, 36 cards having 10 points, 25 cards having 25 points, and 8 cards having 50 points.
✦ If you get the Exclusive Card, you have high chances of winning! You can use this card as one of your words in the headline. Using this card will double your score for that round.
✦ As a player, your objective is to make funny but grammatically correct headlines. Also, the highest score to be achieved is 500 points, so try and reach as close as possible.
Instructions
✦ The youngest player is the first one to deal. He/she will distribute five cards per person.
✦ Each player has to take his own set and check all the possibilities to make a sentence. Whichever card is of no use, can be discarded.
✦ A player can discard a maximum of 3 cards in one round. When he discards one, he takes another from the deck.
✦ All players should be ready with the headlines. Then, the dealer has to show the headline first. Eventually, every player has to show his.
✦ The headlines should be unique but should make sense, Hence, let all the players decide if it’s acceptable or not. If the majority says it is not correct, the player must try to submit another headline.
✦ If someone could not submit a correct headline, his/her score is counted as zero. Appoint a person who will keep a track of everyone’s scores.
Calculating the Scores
✦ Only if the headline makes sense, the scores can be added up as per the value on the bottom.
✦ Keep a check on the uses of Exclusive cards because it will help the most!
✦ If one player gets 500, the round is called off. But, if there are two people with 500 points or more, the player with the highest score wins the game.
