There’s nothing that really gets your gray cells ticking like a riddle does. Riddles are loads of fun to solve, and the most common and interesting ones are the ‘what am I riddles’. Here are some funny and difficult ones that you can ponder over for some time.
In 1974, Mac E. Barrick in the The Journal of American Folklore stated that the above mentioned ‘newspaper riddle’ was the most common example of a folk riddle collected in the United States in the twentieth century. Solving riddles are really fun, whether for passing your time or just a game for a small get-together. I have often noticed a strange kind of enjoyment in getting correct answers to riddles.
On the other hand, if you can’t find the answer, it does get annoying. From the endless different types of riddles, I find the ”what am I” riddles, the most interesting. Here is a list of such riddles, see if you can solve these interesting and funny ones. Get riddling!
But written with three,
Two letters there are,
And only two in me.
I’m double, I’m single,
I’m black, blue, and gray,
I’m read from both ends,
And the same either way.
What am I?
I am not known,
Yet you miss me so much
When I have flown. What am I?
Now that you have solved the easy ones, try solving these slightly difficult ones.
To lie at your feet,
All day I will follow you
No matter how fast you run,
Yet I nearly perish
In the midday sun. What am I?
Yet you hear me again,
Then I die,
Until you call me again. What am I?
Or stamp their feet
At the sound of me, women may laugh
Or at times weep. What am I?
At dusk I’ll be the first you see
And daybreak couldn’t come without
What midday centers all about
Daisies grow from me, I’m told
And when I come, I end all cold
But in the sun I won’t be found
Yet still, each day I’ll be around
What am I?
