Organizing Sunday or Feast day gatherings in the church can serve in a way to know your local church community better. Such retreats and youth camps can lead the faithful into prayer, worship, and a better understanding of scriptures. The easiest way to inculcate scripture-based living is through fun activities like conducting Christian games during the congregational gatherings. These games not only entertain but also allow one to learn about the Bible verses.

Bible Charades
Love to act out? Then this game can be a popular hit among the crowd by encouraging participation and teamwork.
How to Play
► Write famous biblical events as clues on individual slips of paper. For e.g. Jesus walking on water, Moses breaking the tablets of ten commandments, the writing on the wall during Belshazzar’s feast etc.
► Fold the slips of paper and place them in a bowl or hat.
► Divide the people into two teams, allow one person from a team to come forward and pick out a slip then act it out. Give the other team two minutes to guess the event, if the team gives the right response, tabulate it on a board by giving points. Allow each person from the teams to take turns.
► The team with maximum correct guesses wins.
Bible Sword
Bible is known to be a double-edged sword. The word of God is powerful and reading the scriptures daily not only gives comfort but also increases one’s faith. How much time do you spend reading the Bible? This game can test that out.
How to Play
► Create a list of Bible passages that revolve around a particular theme for e.g. The creation, The ministry of Jesus etc.
► Divide the gathered crowd into two groups. It is better if the participants have carried their own bibles, if not then provide them with one.
► Ask them to keep their bibles closed while the organizer of the game reads out a reference or a question from the chosen topic, e.g. when did God create Adam?
► The group that finds the related passage first reads it out loud. Keep a score of the groups on a board, the group with the maximum points wins.
Who am I?
Biblical characters are fascinating and this game allows one to guess these characters with an added element of fun. This works like a spunky plot for breaking the ice among the believers.
How to Play
► Write down the names of biblical characters from the old and new testaments with a colorful marker in a readable text on colorful stick notes.
► As the participants enter the room, pin or stick these notes onto their backs without allowing them to see the name.
► Let the participants move around the room asking each other questions until they can figure out their character. e.g. Am I king? Am I from the old testament? Am I a disciple?
► The person who guesses his character first, wins.
Bible Relay
A sporty outdoor game that requires the perfect combination of energy and intellect.
How to Play
► On two separate sheets of paper make an equal list of bible verses according to the number of the participants. Keep a separate record of the page numbers of these verses for verification.
► Divide the group into two teams and make them stand at one end of the ground. Put two tables and place a bible on both tables.
► Ask the first person from each team pick a verse and run to the table. Find the verse in the bible and run back to the team to note down the page number. Carry this turn wise till all the participants complete the relay race.
► The team that finishes first wins.
Bible Telephone
This game goes on the lines of Chinese whisper which makes it a fun activity.
How to Play
► Let the participants seat themselves in a circle.
► Pick a small bible verse and whisper it into the ears of the first participant, let the verse pass on ear to ear till the last participant says it out loud.
► This game can be played among two groups as well, the group that correctly repeats the verse wins.
Name the Hymn
A congregation is always happy with singing and praising the Lord, and this game puts your vocal cords as well as the knowledge of hymns to test.
How to Play
► Pick someone who is a skilled pianist and has a good knowledge of the church hymns.
► Divide the group into two teams. Let the pianist play a tune from any church hymn and let the participants guess. To make it more interesting, ask the pianist to play the hymn from the middle of a verse.
► The group with the maximum correct guesses wins. The teams can always end up singing the hymns which is even more wonderful.
Know Your Verses
How well have you memorized the Bible verses? Can you fill in the missing words? This game tests your memory skills.
How to Play
► Pick a set of bible verses which are a little easy. Write them down on a sheet of paper or print them out with one missing word from the verse. Make index cards of the missing words, it is advisable to make some extra just to keep the participants guessing.
► Divide the group into two team. Say the verse out loud and allow two participants from the teams run towards the cards kept at the other end of the room, to pick the correct index card with the word.
► The team that guesses most of the words wins, this game can also be played outdoors as a race.
Finish the sentence
A simple game, yet it can add much amusement to a little introduction.
How to Play
► Ask the participants to introduce themselves and while doing so, give them predetermined sentences… like I count my blessings of.. or I am grateful to the Lord about. This not only allows each one to know one another better, but also lets the speaker unwind a bit and share personal experiences which might inspire the congregation.
Bible Sweethearts
An amusing game especially for couples.
How to Play
► Print out the names of famous biblical couples, the males on a sheet with their female counterpart space blank and vice versa.
► Divide the group into couples, hand out the sheets. Let the male participants have the sheet of male names with the female names blank, and the female participants with the female names with the male names blank. Allow them to fill out the sheet without consulting each other.
► The couple who fills out the right names on the blanks are the Biblical Sweethearts.
Bible Treasure Hunt
A community game that can be enjoyed by all.
How to Play
► Create enough bible verses with one word missing that will be the first clue leading to the next clue for e.g.
‘And God said, Let there be ___: and there was ___’. – Genesis 1:3 The missing word here is “light” , hide the next verse clue near a source of light.
► Divide the group into two teams and let them begin the hunt with the verse clues towards the hidden treasure. The group that figures out all the clues wins.
As the Bible states: ‘Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!’ – Psalm 133:1. It is indeed wonderful for the believers to get together and praise God, and have an opportunity to spend time together through these biblical games.
